we've started the selling-off process. So far I've sold the truck (and not a day too soon as all the other destitute cars on the street got parking tickets that same afternoon.), we sold the isun (a fairly clumsy solar charger that E. never actually used.), a mirror, a bass guitar and amp and a few other odds and ends. My conclusion thus far: Selling things on craigslist is neither easy nor convenient, although now that I created an account it is quite a bit easier to manage our postings.
With that said here's our picasa account with all the currently "for sale" items.
We've also picked up some more books from the library, one on Laos although the Lonely Planet "SouthEast Asia" seems to cover Laos pretty sufficently for our needs, and a few on Cambodia. I'm reading "First they killed my father - A daughter of Cambodia remembers" by Loung Ung which has is heart and gut wrenching so far. I'm not sure how this will affect my travels in Cambodia, I almost think I'll prefer to read accounts about a country while we're actually in said country like we did with "Holy Cow" by Sarah Macdonald whilst we were in India. Logistically the approach of reading translated books or english published books while abroad might be more difficult but I think I'm going to work up a list of "to read" for our trip and see what I can find along the way.
We did our taxes and got a nice infusion into the travel fund and we're over the half-way mark now and with the payoff of our last credit card in January we're able to save quite a bit more now. Oh, and that bass guitar we sold... that was the first thing I ever put on credit, and after having it for 6 years and hardly ever touching it, 2 weeks after it was finally paid off it was gone. Funny how things work out like that...
